Assistive Services

The Jefferson Public Library is committed to ensuring that our programs and resources are accessible to everyone by offering a variety of assistive services that meet our community’s diverse needs. 

Assistive Services

  • Dementia Friendly- Staff has completed training and the library is certified as a dementia-friendly organization.
  • Interpretation Services- Spanish and American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters can be provided upon request. Contact the Library at (920) 674-7733 at least 1 week prior for this accommodation.
  • Library Social Story-  Planning a trip to the library with your child? Print out this social story or read it in your browser. It will introduce your child to our library with real pictures of the building before they visit. Download and read:Welcome to Your Library (PDF)
  • Retrieval of Items- Library staff are happy to retrieve items for you ahead of your visit or when you come in.
  • Specialized Materials- Large Print Books, Audiobooks, Wonderbooks, Streaming TV and movies with closed caption on Libby, TonieBoxes, Yoto Players
  • Wisconsin Talking Book and Braille Library-  As part of a national network cooperating with the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS), the Wisconsin Talking Book and Braille Library (WTBBL) provides audiobooks and Brailled materials to persons, living in Wisconsin, who cannot read or use regular print materials as a result of temporary or permanent visual or physical limitations.

Assistive Technology

  • Hearing Loops-  Hearing loops assist visitors who use telecoil-enabled (t-coil) hearing aids or cochlear implants. Headphones that can be used with hearing loop receivers are also available to borrow for those without a hearing device or a hearing device without a telecoil. Portable hearing loops are located at each circulation desk and can be used with telecoil technology or headphones. Neck loops are available upon request for use in the meeting rooms.
  • Low-Vision Computer- Both departments feature public internet computers with larger monitors and high contrast keyboards.
  • Magnifiers- Magnifiers for computer monitors or reading can be provided upon request.

Building Features

  • Accessible Restrooms- Accessible restrooms are located in the Adult Department on the First Floor.
  • Accessible Seating- All seating in the Library is accessible.
  • Catalog Computers- Youth Department has one (1) catalog computer that allows for standing with a high contrast keyboard. The Adult Department has two (2) catalog computers. One (1) that allows for standing with a high contrast keyboard and one (1) with a high contrast keyboard and a larger monitor that allows for wheelchair access or sitting down.
  • Changing Stations- There is a changing station located in all public restrooms.
  • Entrances- All entrances to the Library have automatic doors. The rear entrance to the Library features an elevator. The elevator has Braille signage. There is a ramp on the north side of the building.
  • Parking- The Library has handicap accessible parking located near the rear entrance.
  • Shopping Carts- Shopping carts are available in the Adult and Youth Department.
  • Walker- The Library has a wheeled walker in the Adult Department.

  • Program Accommodations- To request reasonable accommodations for a program, please contact the Library at (920) 674-7733 at least 1 week before the program date.
  • Service Animals- Service animals are welcome in the library anywhere the general public is allowed. Service animals are not required to wear a vest or label. Emotional support animals are not allowed in the library.
